Cuttack, Dec 30: Popular singer Arpita Choudhury has moved the Orissa High Court seeking anticipatory bail in connection with the death case of noted Odia playback singer Humane Sagar, a source said Tuesday.

According to the source, Choudhury filed a joint anticipatory bail petition along with Soumesh Satapathy after both were named in an FIR lodged by Sagar’s mother, Shefali Suna. The petition was filed apprehending arrest following the registration of the case, in which nine persons have been named as accused.

Suna has sought a criminal investigation into the circumstances leading to her son’s death, alleging that it was not natural.

FIR Names Nine Accused
Earlier this month, Shefali Suna lodged the FIR at the Markat Nagar police station in Cuttack, naming Soumesh Satapathy, Arpita Choudhury and seven others. In her complaint, she alleged that those named were responsible for her son’s deteriorating health and eventual death.

The FIR was registered several weeks after Humane Sagar’s death. Suna later explained the delay publicly, citing emotional distress and changing circumstances following the loss of her son.

Fresh Probe Underway
Following the complaint, the Commissionerate Police reopened the case and initiated a fresh investigation. Officials said investigators have begun examining financial transactions of all nine accused and have sought call detail records covering multiple years as part of the probe.

The Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (Cuttack) had earlier stated that all persons named in the FIR would be summoned and questioned as part of the investigation.

Among the accused, only Md Abid alias Bablu, owner of Sagar Sangam Live, has responded publicly so far, denying the allegations and stating that he would cooperate with the investigation.
