Key Points
Nepali student’s tragic passing at KIIT University sparks high-level investigation as officials seek answers.
Bhubaneswar, May 1: A first-year Computer Science student, reportedly from Nepal, tragically ended her life in KIIT University’s Student Residence-4, say multiple reports.
Commissionerate Police, including high-ranking officials such as the Zone ACP, IIC, and DCP, swiftly arrived at the scene, securing the area and initiating an investigation.
The student’s body was taken into custody as forensic experts examined the circumstances surrounding the tragic event. The incident has drawn significant attention from every community.
Going by the suspicion of a case of suicide, this is the second such case this year where a Nepali female student has been found dead in KIIT.
Notably, on February 16, a 20-year-old Nepali female student, Prakriti Lamsal, was found dead in her hostel room. The incident sparked widespread protests among Nepali students, leading to diplomatic intervention from Nepal.
Reports indicate that Lamsal had faced harassment from a fellow student, which allegedly led to her distress. The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) later held KIIT accountable for negligence and directed authorities to take action. However, the Orissa High Court extended a stay on NHRC proceedings until June 30, delaying further investigation.
The case has drawn significant attention, with concerns over university safety and student welfare being raised.
And, with another suspected suicide of a Nepali student, KIIT has yet again grabbed the headlines for wrong reasons.
