Angul, Dec 26: A tusker (male elephant) reportedly died in a truck accident on National Highway 49 between Pallahada and Telkoi in Angul district this evening. 

According to the information, the elephant was crossing the road when a speeding truck ran over it. The severity of the accident was such that the jumbo was pushed to a few meters. The pachyderm was injured severely and died on the spot after a few minutes. 

Though the driver of the truck tried to flee from the spot, he was caught later by forest officials. 

The driver said the elephant came in front of his vehicle as forest officials drove away it towards the road.
