Keonjhar, Jul 27: Every morning, when most people brace themselves for the day’s challenges, Karishma Naik of Keonjhar district braves the swollen Malada river to reach her center and teach children of Haladihi Jharasahi under Kadakala Panchayat in Banspal block.

With no bridge across the Malada river, she ventures through waist-deep water, carrying books, meals, and a sense of duty that refuses to be diluted by danger.

For over three years, Karishma has walked nearly 2 kilometers, braving seasonal floods and strong currents just to ensure the children of Haladihi receive the nourishment and education they deserve. Her dedication has made her not just a teacher, but a symbol of grit and grace for the residents of Banspal block.

Her path is not just physically demanding but emotionally stirring. The river, especially during monsoon, becomes a formidable barrier. Yet, Karishma’s resolve remains unshaken.
