Bhubaneswar, Feb 17: Union Home Minister Amit Shah will undertake a day-long visit to Odisha on March 7, where he is scheduled to participate in two official programmes. His itinerary includes attending the Raising Day celebrations of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) at its Mundali campus in Cuttack district, officials said on Tuesday.
The CRPF, India’s largest central armed police force, plays
a crucial role in maintaining law and order and combating insurgency. Shah’s
presence at the event underscores the Centre’s emphasis on strengthening
paramilitary forces and reviewing their operational preparedness.
Focus on Anti-Naxal Operations
During his visit, Shah is likely to review anti-Naxal
operations in Odisha. The Centre has intensified its push to eradicate
Left-Wing Extremism (LWE) by March 31. Most affected districts in the state,
including Boudh, Nuapada, Nabarangpur, Malkangiri, and Koraput, have already
been declared Naxal-free. Odisha, along with neighbouring Chhattisgarh, has
been a focal point in counter-insurgency efforts.

Review of New Criminal Law
Shah is also likely to assess the implementation of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, the new criminal law introduced by the Centre to modernise and strengthen India’s criminal justice system. The review will focus on coordination between state and central agencies to ensure smooth enforcement.
The visit is expected to highlight both security and legal
reforms, reflecting the Centre’s twin priorities of consolidating gains against
extremism and modernising governance frameworks.
