Bhubaneswar, Sep 18: A shocking incident unfolded near Unit 8 Market bus stop in Bhubaneswar, where an Ama Bus conductor allegedly assaulted a passenger during a heated argument.

The incident occurred on vehicle OD33AH0166 and has sparked public outrage over increasing misconduct by public transport staff.

According to eyewitnesses, the passenger was boarding the bus near Governor House Square when a verbal altercation broke out with the conductor. The situation escalated quickly, with the conductor reportedly shouting at the passenger and then physically assaulting him. The conductor allegedly dragged the man out of the bus and struck him repeatedly, including with a wire mesh, causing a serious head injury.

Local residents rushed the injured passenger to a nearby hospital for emergency treatment. The conductor later claimed the passenger was under the influence of alcohol, which led to the confrontation. However, locals stated that such behaviour by bus staff has become increasingly common.

Residents of the area have voiced concerns over repeated incidents of misconduct and aggression by bus employees, especially on the Ama Bus service. Police have begun an investigation into the incident.
