Berhampur, Jun 17: All 10 accused, involved in alleged gang-rape of a young woman at Gopalpur Beach in Odisha’s Ganjam district, have been arrested, informed a senior police official.

According to reports, the crime occurred when the woman along with her male friend were at an isolated part of the beach. Meanwhile, the duo was confronted by the accused persons. They then allegedly overpowered the male friend and dragged him away from the woman, after which they gangraped her.

The accused persons initially extorted money from the victim and her companion before assaulting them. The woman was then taken aside and subjected to sexual violence.

The police acted swiftly, detaining seven suspects on Monday, followed by the arrest of three more individuals on Tuesday.

Authorities revealed that some of the accused attempted to flee the state, but were intercepted by a special police team before they could escape. A thorough investigation is underway, with forensic experts and law enforcement officials examining the crime scene for further evidence.

The incident has sparked outrage, with activists and citizens demanding stricter security measures at popular tourist destinations.
