An ailing three-year-old elephant calf, which was rescued from Deogaon jungle in Balangir district,  died under treatment in the Chandaka-Damapada sanctuary of Khordha district on Sunday evening.  

Balangir, Sept 2: An ailing three-year-old elephant calf, which was rescued from Deogaon jungle in Balangir district,  died under treatment in the Chandaka-Damapada sanctuary of Khordha district on Sunday evening.  

According to the information, the elephant calf was under veterinary doctors' observation at Damapada sanctuary after being rescued from Deogaon jungle for over a week.

Veterinary doctors from Nandankanan Zoological Park and Odisha University of Agriculture Technology (OUAT) were treating the calf. Saline was being administered as it was not eating anything.

The calf breathed its last at around 6 pm. Postmortem on the body will be conducted today, said Chandaka DFO Sarat Chandra Behera.
