New Delhi/Bhubaneswar, Aug 3: AIIMS Bhubaneswar has been conferred the prestigious “Emerging Government Institution in Organ Transplantation” award at the 16th Indian Organ Donation Day (IODD) celebrations in New Delhi, officials said on Monday.
The event was organised by the National Organ and Tissue Transplant Organization (NOTTO) under the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare.
The award was presented by Union Minister of State for Health & Family Welfare and Chemicals & Fertilizers, Anupriya Patel, in the presence of senior officials including Punya Salila Srivastava, Secretary, Ministry of Health & Family Welfare; Dr. Loveneesh G. Krishna, Director General of Health Services; Shri Vijay Nehra, Additional Secretary; and Dr. Anil Kumar, Director, NOTTO.
Receiving the honour on behalf of the institute were Dr. Anita Saxena, President; Dr. Ashutosh Biswas, Executive Director & CEO; Dr. Prabhas Ranjan Tripathy, Medical Superintendent; and Dr. Bramhadatta Pattnaik, Head of Surgical Gastroenterology.

✨AIIMS Bhubaneswar was recognised for its rapid progress in organ transplantation, with procedures rising from 16 in 2024 to 63 in 2025. Since the inception of its transplant programme, the institute has successfully performed 78 kidney transplants, including 61 living donor and 17 deceased donor procedures. It has also facilitated six successful organ donations, four living donor liver transplants, and one deceased donor liver transplant.
Expressing gratitude, Dr. Biswas said, “This recognition
reflects the unwavering commitment and teamwork of our transplant teams,
intensive care specialists, nursing staff, coordinators, and support personnel.
We are equally indebted to donor families whose selfless decisions have saved
countless lives.”

In a short span, AIIMS Bhubaneswar has emerged as a leader in organ retrieval, transplantation, and post-transplant care, while actively promoting organ donation awareness across Eastern India. Notably, it is the only AIIMS in the country to receive this national recognition, underscoring its pioneering role in advanced transplant care.
