Bhubaneswar, Jul 18: AIIMS Bhubaneswar marked a milestone in its journey of excellence by celebrating its 6th Convocation Ceremony on Saturday. Union Minister of State for Health & Family Welfare, Anupriya Patel, attended as the Chief Guest, alongside Odisha Health Minister Dr. Mukesh Mahaling.
In her Convocation Address, Patel congratulated the 684 graduating students across medical, nursing, and allied health disciplines, urging them to dedicate themselves to ethical, compassionate, and patient‑centric healthcare. “The white coat is a symbol of trust, responsibility, commitment and immense privilege. Wear it with confidence and compassion,” she said.
Highlighting India’s healthcare transformation, she noted the expansion of AIIMS institutions from 7 to 23, strengthening access to quality medical education nationwide. She described AIIMS graduates as “Doctor+” for their distinctive exposure to world‑class infrastructure, advanced facilities, and values of empathy and compassion.
Patel also spoke about government initiatives such as Ayushman Bharat PM‑JAY, Ayushman Aarogya Mandirs, and the world’s largest population‑based screening programme for non‑communicable diseases. She emphasised the importance of preventive healthcare, digital transformation through the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission, and the expansion of medical education infrastructure with 820 medical colleges and 1.29 lakh MBBS seats.

Director Dr. Ashutosh Biswas presented the Institute’s progress report,
highlighting achievements in academics, patient care, research, and innovation.

A total of 61 gold medals were awarded to 32 meritorious students. The graduating batch included 192 MBBS, 163 MD/MS, 60 DM/MCh, 17 PDFs, 4 PhDs, 134 BSc Nursing, 75 BSc Paramedical, and 39 MSc Nursing students.
The ceremony reflected AIIMS Bhubaneswar’s growing stature as a hub of excellence in medical education and healthcare, with dignitaries expressing confidence that the graduates would contribute significantly to India’s healthcare system.
