Bhubaneswar, Sept 13: In a pioneering move to address student mental health and prevent suicides, AIIMS Bhubaneswar is set to implement the AI-based “Never Alone” programme, a 24x7 mental wellness platform designed to offer secure, personalized support to students. The initiative aligns with a national strategy to destigmatize mental health and provide timely intervention for youth in higher education.
Launched on World Suicide Prevention Day at AIIMS Delhi, the “Never Alone” app will now be deployed at AIIMS Bhubaneswar under the guidance of its Department of Psychiatry. Accessible via WhatsApp, the platform ensures round-the-clock availability of mental health resources, including virtual and offline consultations with trained professionals and volunteers.
Dr. Ashutosh Biswas, Executive Director of AIIMS Bhubaneswar, emphasized the importance of the initiative: “Students will have both virtual and offline access to consultations with mental health and wellness experts through the app.”

The app operates on three core pillars: screening, intervention, and follow-up. Upon receiving a student’s query, the AI engine generates a diagnostic summary and a treatment link, which is securely routed to the chosen support system—AIIMS Bhubaneswar, AIIMS Delhi, the Council for Wellness of Students (CWS), or trained student volunteers.
This integrated network of psychiatrists, counsellors, faculty members, and peer supporters ensures swift, confidential, and compassionate care. The initiative reflects AIIMS Bhubaneswar’s commitment to blending technology with empathy to create a safer, more supportive academic environment.
By adopting “Never Alone,” AIIMS Bhubaneswar aims to become a national model for mental health innovation in education, setting a precedent for other institutions to follow. The app’s secure interface and AI-driven diagnostics mark a significant advancement in how mental health services can be delivered to students in need.
