Keonjhar, Mar 23: An under-trial prisoner, who reportedly attempted to commit suicide in his cell at Keonjhar district mail jail last night, died this morning under treatment at the SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack. 
The deceased has been identified as Ajay Das, a resident of Bodhabahali village of Kathabari gram panchayat under the Keonjhar Sarda police station limits. 

According to the information, Ajay had been lodged in the jail after being arrested in a minor girl rape case for the last 11 months. Yesterday afternoon, he attempted to commit suicide by hanging himself from a toilet connecting pipe with his towel in the jail promises. However, he was rescued after a while and rushed to the District Headquarters Hospital. After primary treatment, he was shifted to the SCB MCH in Cuttack. But he succumbed while undergoing treatment there. 

The exact reason that drove him to end his life is yet to be known.
