Rayagada, Jul 20: Rayagada Town Police on Sunday arrested Additional Fire Services Officer R. Meshchandra Behera on charges of assaulting a woman sexually.

The arrested was made following a complaint which alleged a long-standing illicit relationship and recent physical assault by the officer.

According to complaint, Behera had been maintaining a physical relationship with the woman for an extended period. However, tensions escalated recently, prompting the woman to approach authorities with formal accusations of assault.

Responding promptly, police detained Behera and later presented him in court.

Officials have confirmed that the investigation is ongoing and further legal proceedings will be carried out based on the evidence collected.
