Abhijit Majumdar Critical but Stable; AIIMS Delhi Transfer Under Consideration

Bhubaneswar, Sept 7: Renowned Odia music director and singer Abhijit Majumdar is showing signs of improvement (health condition), but remains in critical condition at AIIMS Bhubaneswar, where he was admitted on September 4 in a comatose state. If necessary, Majumdar could be shifted to Delhi for advanced care, said Odisha Health Minister Mukesh Mahaling.
Minister Mahaling visited the hospital on Sunday to assess his health and held discussions with the dedicated medical team overseeing his treatment.
Majumdar, 54, was diagnosed with multiple serious conditions including Osmotic Demyelination Syndrome, bilateral pneumonia, bloodstream infection caused by multi-drug resistant Acinetobacter, chronic liver disease, and severe electrolyte imbalances. He also suffers from hypertension, hypothyroidism, and nutritional deficiencies.
Currently, Majumdar is on mechanical ventilation in the Medical ICU under the care of Dr. Srikant Behera, an ICU and ECMO specialist. His kidney and liver functions have stabilized, and electrolyte levels have been corrected. He is receiving culture-directed antibiotics and supportive care as per standard medical protocols. His vitals are stable at present.

Minister Mahaling confirmed that Majumdar’s condition has shown slight improvement compared to earlier days. Although he remains non-verbal and unconscious, some organ functions have resumed. Discussions are underway with AIIMS Delhi, and a separate expert team is likely to be formed to guide further treatment. If necessary, Majumdar could be shifted to Delhi for advanced care.
The Odisha government has assured full support, including financial assistance and logistical coordination. “I will speak to the Chief Minister. All necessary help will be provided from the government’s side,” Mahaling stated.
