Berhampur, Jul 20: In a shocking incident, a newborn baby boy was found abandoned near a roadside tree in Mujagada village under Bhanjanagar police limits in Odisha’s Ganjam district on Monday.

Local residents, alerted by the cries of the infant, discovered him lying at the base of a tree and immediately rushed to his aid.

The child, estimated to be four to five days old, was rescued and taken to the Mujagada Community Health Centre, where doctors said his condition to be stable. Officials said the baby has since been shifted to Bhanjanagar Child Care Home for further care and protection.

Meanwhile, Police have launched an investigation to ascertain who abandoned the child and under what circumstances. The incident has triggered outrage in the locality, with residents condemning the act as inhuman and urging authorities to ensure justice.

While the baby’s health remains stable, the case highlights the continuing challenges of child abandonment and the urgent need for awareness and support systems to prevent such incidents. Authorities have assured that all necessary steps will be taken to safeguard the child’s future while the investigation proceeds.
