94 Percent of Police Stations Have CCTV Cameras In Odisha: Govt Tells HC

Cuttack, Nov 12: CCTV cameras have been installed in the premises of 94 percent of police stations in Odisha and 4 percent of PSs will have CCTV cameras by the end of the current month, November. 

Orissa High Court appreciated the encouraging information the State government submitted in an affidavit during a hearing on a related public interest litigation (PIL) on Tuesday. The PIL sought to know if police behaviour is monitored through CCTV cameras. 

In the affidavit, the State government informed the High Court that CCTV cameras have been installed in police stations across police districts.

The State government said CCTV cameras are being monitored at police headquarters. Efforts are on to install CCTV cameras at 295 police outposts. CCTV cameras will be installed in the premises of these police outposts by March 2025. 

A standard operating procedure (SOP), approved by the Chief Minister, to be followed at police stations to treat Army officials, was also submitted to the High Court. 

The High Court fixed the next hearing for November 19. ADGP Dayal Gangwar was present during the hearing today.
