Balasore, Jul 23: A 7-year-old minor girl was allegedly sexually assaulted by her neighbour at Hadmaud village under Basta police limits in Balasore district.

According to reports, the victim was on her way to a neighbor’s home when the accused, Karunakar Behera (46), reportedly lured the girl into his house. The accused attempted to sexually assault her by offering various inducements.

The girl’s cries alerted a nearby woman, who intervened and rescued her from the scene.

After returning home, the victim narrated the ordeal to her parents, who immediately filed a written complaint at the Amardaroad outpost on Tuesday.

Acting swiftly, Officer-in-Charge Vijay Kumar Barik detained the accused from his residence and is currently conducting further investigation.

This incident has sparked outrage in the local community, with calls for stringent action and justice for the victim.
