Bhubaneswar, Aug 20: A 7-year-old boy died after being bitten by a snake while playing outside his home in Mathasahi village under Balipatna police station limits in Odisha's Khordha district, a source said Thursday.
According to the source, the boy was the grandson of Nabakishore Bhoi. The child was bitten by a snake while he was playing outside the house.
His family members were away at work at the time, and no one was present at home when the incident occurred, the source added.
The family learnt about the snakebite after a considerable delay and rushed the child to a nearby hospital for treatment.
However, doctors declared him dead on Wednesday night, according to the information available.
The incident has left the family in mourning.

The incident comes days after a woman and her 7-year-old son died after being bitten by Banded Kraits while sleeping at their home in Gajapati district.
The incident was reported on August 7 from Kadambatal village under Jalang panchayat in Rayagada block.
According to the source, Ajay Kumar Badaraita was sleeping at home with his wife Lalita, 30, their seven-year-old son Amit and their one-and-a-half-year-old daughter when two Banded Kraits entered the house and allegedly bit Lalita and Amit.

The cries of the mother and son woke Ajay, who reportedly saw the two snakes inside the house.
Family members rushed the victims to the Rayagada Community Health Centre. As their condition deteriorated, they were referred to the Gajapati District Headquarters Hospital in Paralakhemundi, where both reportedly died while undergoing treatment.
Ajay and his 1-and-a-half-year-old daughter were unharmed.
