✨One of the major focus areas is the rejuvenation of the Musa River, particularly the stretch from the Kanchi River to Dhaudia.
Following the completion of Phase-I works, authorities have initiated surveys for Phase-II, which will involve large-scale dredging, river widening, embankment development and beautification works. Encroachments will be removed and land acquisition undertaken wherever necessary.
Officials believe the project will significantly improve the appearance of Atharanala, the historic gateway to Puri, which has long been plagued by silt accumulation, stagnant water and garbage deposits that often leave visitors with a poor first impression of the holy city.
In another major attraction, the upcoming Puri Lake project at Khandia Bandha will offer modern recreational facilities including boating, cycling tracks, walking paths and an open gym. The project is expected to emerge as a new destination for both tourists and local residents.
The government is also planning a major facelift for Banki Muhana, where polluted water and waste accumulation have remained longstanding concerns.
The area will be developed into a modern beachfront destination with a dedicated Sand Art Park, inspired by the success of Puri's internationally acclaimed sand art culture. Authorities also plan to introduce enhanced police and fire safety arrangements for visitors.
District Collector and Puri Municipal Corporation officials have conducted field inspections of the Atharanala, Musa River and Banki Muhana projects to monitor progress and expedite implementation.
Construction and survey activities are already underway at
several sites. Officials say the projects will not only improve the city's
aesthetics but also strengthen tourism, create recreational spaces and provide
a new identity to key entry points of Puri.
