Puri, Nov 13: Six heads of cattle were burnt alive and household properties worth lakhs of rupees were reduced to ashes in a fire mishap at Balipatapur under Krushnaprasad area in Puri district last night. 

According to the information, a fire erupted from an unknown source in a house first. Then it spread fast and engulfed as many as six houses. 

In this horrible incident, four cows and two bullocks, who were tied in their shed, were burnt alive. Besides, 40 gunny bags of paddy, furniture and other household articles worth lakhs of rupees were reduced to ashes. 

However, family members, who were asleep then, had a miraculous escape. Feeling the heat, they all woke up and ran for safety. 

On being informed, firefighting vehicles rushed to the spot and doused the blaze.
