Bhubaneswar, June 26: At least five people were killed and three others sustained severe injuries in separate incidents of lightning strike in Odisha’s Balangir and Bargarh districts on Wednesday.
As per reports, a woman and her son died and another family member was critically injured due to lightning strike at Chaulabanji village under Khaprakhol police limits in Balangir district this afternoon, while they were working in their agricultural field.
The deceased have been identified as Suryakanti Kharcel and her son Deepak Kharcel. Suryakanti's brother-in-law sustained severe burn injuries in the incident. He has been admitted to Khaprakhol hospital, sources said.
In a similar incident in Bargarh district, at least three people were killed and two others sustained critical injuries after lightning struck them at Diwandihi village in Padampur area this afternoon.
The deceased persons have been identified as Sukhadev Banachor, Niroj Kumbhar and Dhanurjya Nayak.

✨The incident occured when five people including the deceased persons were sitting under a tree in the village and lightning struck them.
After getting information, the local police reached both the spots respectively and started investigation into the incidents.
The bodies of the victims have been sent for post-mortem, police said.
