Dhenkanal, Jan 4: At least five people were critically injured and 35 others sustained minor injuries after the picnic bus they were travelling in met with a series of collisions with a Hyva truck and another truck on NH-149 near Kamakhyanagar in Odisha’s Dhenkanal district on Thursday.

As per reports, the bus, carrying the picnickers, was returning to Badchana in Jajpur district after a picnic at Sambalpur when the mishap took place.

The bus reportedly collided with a Hyva truck at Bhejia Square. Soon after the mishap, the driver of another truck lost control of the wheel and crashed into the Hyva, leaving the picnickers and drivers of the trucks injured.

After getting information, Mahabiroad Police reached the spot and rescued the injured persons with the help of the locals.

All the injured have been admitted to Talcher Community Health Center (CHC). Five of them are stated to be critical, sources said.

Police started an investigation into the matter.
