Bhubaneswar, Feb 24: The Odisha government reported substantial vacancies across key All India and state services, including the Indian Administrative Service (IAS), Indian Police Service (IPS), and Odisha Administrative Service (OAS), the Assembly was informed.
Replying to a question by Lanjigarh MLA Pradip Kumar Dishari, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Monday placed detailed figures before the House regarding sanctioned strength and existing vacancies.
According to the Chief Minister, Odisha has a sanctioned strength of 248 IAS officers, of which 42 posts are currently vacant.
In the IPS cadre, 195 posts have been sanctioned, with 67 lying vacant.
Similarly, in the Indian Forest Service (IFS), 66 posts are vacant against a sanctioned strength of 141.
Majhi clarified in the Assembly that appointments to the IAS, IPS and IFS cadres are made by the Central Government.
State Services Also Report Vacancies
The Chief Minister further informed the House that vacancies also persist in state cadre services.
In the Odisha Administrative Service (OAS), 2,248 posts have been sanctioned, with 330 vacancies reported.
In the Odisha Police Service (OPS), 852 posts are sanctioned, with 147 posts currently vacant.
The government stated that appropriate steps are being taken to fill these posts, particularly in state services, to ensure smooth administrative functioning.

Officers on Central Deputation
CM Majhi also revealed that 27 IAS officers, 28 IPS officers and seven IFS officers from Odisha are presently on central deputation outside the state.
The government assured the Assembly that necessary measures are being initiated to address the staffing gaps and strengthen governance and policing across districts.
