Cuttack, Apr 11: As many as 324 CCTV cameras installed in police stations and outposts across Odisha are currently non-functional, prompting concern from the state police headquarters, a senior police official informed.
Taking serious note of the issue, the Additional Director General (Law and Order) has written an urgent letter to the CEO of the Odisha Computer Application Centre (OCAC), seeking immediate intervention.
As many as 297 cameras in police stations and 27 in outposts have been found non-operational, which has been termed an unusually high number, the letter read.

Officials said that out of 645 police stations in the state, five stations are completely offline.
As per the guidelines of the Supreme Court of India, CCTV cameras in all police stations and outposts must remain functional round the clock with proper data storage.
The police department directed the concerned agencies to take immediate steps to restore the systems. Stations that are offline due to technical faults, power supply issues or relocation to new buildings have been asked to be prioritised.
The matter has been treated as urgent, with instructions issued for swift resolution to ensure uninterrupted surveillance and compliance with court guidelines, officials added.
