Bhawanipatna, Apr 21: A 31-year-old woman died in a road accident near Gungunia village on the intervening night of Monday and Tuesday, a source said.
The deceased was identified as Minu Rani Sahu, 31, wife of Purna Chandra Sahu from Mangalpur village.
According to the source, a Mahindra Bolero carrying six passengers was returning to Mangalpur village after attending a wedding ceremony.
During the journey, the driver lost control of the vehicle and rammed into a roadside tamarind tree, leading to the mishap. Following the mishap, Minu was taken to the Jaipatna Community Health Centre, where a doctor declared her dead.
Other passengers sustained injuries in the accident and are currently undergoing treatment at Jaipatna Community Health Centre.

Jaipatna Police have registered a case and launched an investigation related to the incident.
The incident came to light at a time when road accidents in Odisha have shown an upward trend, with over 27,000 deaths in the past five years (2020-2024), averaging over 5,000 deaths annually.
