Bhubaneswar, Aug 30: More than 30,000 birds have been culled and buried at various places under the Satyabadi and Pipili areas after bird flu was detected in the last few weeks.
According to the information, 21 teams have been engaged in culling birds, and 10 are taking up sanitization work. The State government is giving compensation to farmers for the loss of birds. While Rs 20 is given for a small bird, Rs 70 is given per a grown-up bird, informed Fisheries and Animal Resources Minister Gokulananda Mallick.
The Minister said the government had already paid Rs 10 lakh compensation to farmers.
The Minister further informed that Rs 3 was paid per egg lost during the culling drive. He said efforts were taken to check the spread of the bird flu to other parts of the district. Samples from Nimapada and Delanga had been sent to the laboratory for testing, said the Minister.

✨He reasserted that no human contamination of bird flu was detected in the State. Samples sent for testing came negative, he said.
Only one person has been kept in isolation as a preventive measure. The Health Department has remained alert and there is no reason to fear, said the Minister.
