Balasore, May 14: Officials of the forest department have released 253 baby Olive Ridley turtles into the sea at Dagara beach located under the Baliapal block of Balasore district here. 

The baby turtles started to crawl towards the sea as soon as they were released under the direct supervision of Harishikesh Pradhan, Forester of the Wildlife Section of Langalaswar.

While Dogra beach is a suitable place for olive ridley turtles to lay their eggs, this year the turtles were kept in a temporary hatchery for 60 days by the Langalaswar forest department after they laid their eggs.

This step marks a significant effort in safeguarding the Olive Ridley turtle, which is on the verge of extinction.
