Bhubaneswar, Mar 25: At least 210 people died due to electrocution in Odisha over the past three years, Deputy Chief Minister Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo informed the Assembly on Wednesday in a written reply.
He added that financial assistance amounting to over Rs 5.37 lakh has been provided to families of victims in cases that have been resolved.
Advisory Amid LPG Supply Concerns
In a separate response, Food Supplies and Consumer Welfare Minister Krushna Chandra Patra said the state government has advised hotels and restaurants to adopt alternative fuel systems amid concerns over LPG supply disruptions linked to the West Asia conflict.
The alternatives suggested include PNG (piped natural gas), electric ovens, induction systems and steam-based cooking methods.
Crackdown on Illegal LPG Storage
The minister further informed that enforcement squads in all districts are maintaining strict vigil against illegal hoarding and storage of LPG cylinders, with necessary action being taken.

Wider Safety Concerns
The Assembly disclosures come amid broader concerns over public safety in the state, including rising incidents of human-elephant conflict. As per the latest data shared in the House yesterday, 706 people have died in elephant attacks over the past five years, highlighting multiple risk factors affecting lives across Odisha.
During the same period, 432 elephants died due to various causes, including poaching, electrocution, accidents, retaliatory killings, disease, old age, infighting and calf deaths
Elephants typically move between forests in search of food and water. During such movement, they often stray into human settlements near forest areas, leading to frequent conflicts that result in loss of life and property.
