Balangir, May 3: After five years on the run, two prime suspects—Gangua Majhi and Debaraj Majhi—involved in the gruesome 2020 Patnagarh mass murder case have been arrested. The accused father-son duo have been reportedly forwarded to court

The shocking incident took place in Balangir district, where six people, including Bulu Jani and his wife Jyoti Jani, were brutally killed, triggering widespread outrage. Their bodies were allegedly found lying on the floor, wrapped in blankets at their home in the Sanrapada village under Patnagarh police limits in the Bolangir district.

The deceased were identified as Bulu Jani (50), his wife Jyoti (48), two daughters Sarita and Shreya, and two sons Bhishma and Sanjeev.

The massacre was allegedly masterminded by Babulal Jani, who was arrested alongside six other accused.

However, two suspects--Gangua and Debaraj had managed to evade capture until now.

Acting on reliable inputs, a police team, led by station officer Haribandhu Gadtya, traced Gangua and Debaraj's presence at Nilji village in Nuapada district. A trap was laid and the accused father and son were arrested.

They have been brought to Patnagarh court for further proceedings.

According to SDPO Sadananda Pujahari, the murders were rooted in long-standing conflicts, attacks, and retaliations between the Jani, Gand, and Gang families.
