Bhubaneswar, Jan 7: The 18th Pravasi Bharatiya Divas (PBD) Convention will be held in Bhubaneswar from 8-10 January. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will formally inaugurate the three-day event on 9 January.
The theme of the 18th PBD Convention is "Diaspora's Contribution to a Viksit Bharat".
Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi today urged the people of the state to accord a grand welcome and respect to the Indian diaspora coming to Odisha to attend the 18th Pravasi Bharatiya Divas beginning in the State Capital tomorrow.
The Chief Minister also noted that the Pravasi Bharatiya Divas (PBD) convention is a great opportunity for Odisha to showcase its rich art, culture and heritage to the world.
First celebrated in 2003, PBD honours the role of overseas Indians in shaping India's progress, both socially and economically. The date of January 9th is significant as it marks the return of Mahatma Gandhi to India in 1915, after his time in South Africa, which was a turning point in India's freedom movement.
Since then, PBD has grown into a biennial event, bringing together policymakers, diaspora experts, and stakeholders to engage in discussions about India's development and the diaspora's role in it.

✨A highlight of the event is the presentation of the Pravasi Bharatiya Samman Award (PBSA), which recognises individuals and organisations that have made significant contributions in fields such as social work, humanitarian efforts, and enhancing India's global standing.
The 18th PBD aims to strengthen ties between India and its diaspora community, with a focus on cultural exchange, business networking, and knowledge sharing. The event has attracted participants from around the world, including content creators, entrepreneurs, and thought leaders.
With its rich cultural heritage and warm hospitality, Bhubaneswar is all set to make the 18th PBD a memorable experience for all participants.
Meanwhile, security has been tightened around Bhubaneswar for the three-day long Pravasi Bharatiya Divas convention.
