Subarnapur, Sep 1: In a major crackdown on illegal drug trafficking, Police seized 187 bottles of cough syrup from a car near the government bus stand near Ulanda in Odisha’s Subarnapur district on Monday.

Acting on a reliable tip-off, police intercepted the vehicle suspected of transporting contraband from the Kotasamala area.

A special team from Ulunda Police conducted a raid near the bus stand and detained the car for inspection. Upon searching the vehicle, authorities discovered a large quantity of cough syrup, commonly misused as a narcotic substance. The seizure was carried out in the presence of the local Drugs Inspector and Additional Tahsildar.

Following the inventory count, officials confirmed the presence of 187 bottles of cough syrup. Two individuals — Kahnei Ugre and Saroj Badchat — were arrested on the spot and taken into custody for further investigation.

Police sources revealed that the accused were allegedly involved in transporting the banned substance for illegal sale. The operation is part of a broader effort by Odisha Police to curb the rising misuse of pharmaceutical drugs in the region.

The arrested individuals will be booked under relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. Police are now probing the supply chain and possible links to larger drug networks operating across district borders.
