Morada (Mayurbhanj), Mar 11: Odisha Police have foiled yet another cattle smuggling attempt rescuing as many as 185 buffaloes in Mayurbhanj district late Monday night.
The Morada police have arrested six accused in this connection. The accused were reportedly smuggling the buffaloes to West Bengal.
In the Mayurbhanj district, within the Morada Police Station jurisdiction, illegal smuggling of cattle and buffaloes has been a persistent issue for years. However, the new officer-in-charge of Morada police station, Sumit Soren, took a decisive action against this activity.
According to reports, Soren received information late Monday night about a planned illegal transportation of 185 buffaloes to the neighbouring state.
Acting promptly, he intercepted the smuggling carrier near Dhoda Sahi Chhak. Following inquiries, it was confirmed that the buffaloes were being transported illegally.
Subsequently, the buffaloes were rescued and were taken to the police station late at night. In addition, six individuals involved in the smuggling operation were detained.
More details are awaited in this connection as investigations into the matter are underway.
Odisha police have been vigilant for past few months over cattle smuggling activities. They have managed to foil many such smuggling attempts across the state, especially in the districts close to West Bengal border.
