Berhamapur, Jan 28: As many as 18 gram panchayats will included in the Berhampur Muncipal Corporation (BeMC) and enjoy all available urban facilities soon.


Housing and Urban Development Minister Krushna Chandra Mohapatra has reportedly okayed a proposal in this regard.


Considering a request from the "Berhmpur Sahar Talianchal Kriyanusthan Committee" ( Berhampur City Outskirts Action Committee), Housing and Urban Development Minister Krushna Chandra Mohapatra has advised Ganjam district Collector to submit a formal proposal to the department.


According to the information, the action committee submitted a memorandum to Minister Mohapatra during his visit to Berhampur recently.

The Minister assured that the longstanding demand will be fulfilled soon. Besides, the Minister has asked the BeMC Commissioner to take into account the civic problems of the 18 GPs, all adjacent to the city, and take steps to resolve them. Formed in 2008, the action committee approached the then BJD government for inclusion of the adjacent villages of 18 GPs.


They staged demonstrations and submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister and departmental Minister. In 2022, the government approved the inclusion of only three villages in the BeMC.
