Key Points

76-year-old Narayan Tripathy seeks justice for his son’s 2008 murder at Gopalpur beach.
Balakrishna was allegedly killed while protecting his friend from a group assault.
Father urges the new government to reopen the case and ensure justice is served.

Berhampur, Jun 21: Seventeen years have passed since the brutal murder of 22-year-old Balakrishna Tripathy at Gopalpur beach, yet his father, 76-year-old retired police havildar Narayan Tripathy, continues to wait for justice.

The tragic incident occurred in November 2008, when Balakrishna was visiting Gopalpur beach with his female friend. According to Narayan, a group of eight miscreants allegedly attempted to assault the girl, and when Balakrishna intervened to protect her, he was beaten to death.

Despite the gravity of the crime, Narayan claims that the then BJD-led state government failed to take meaningful action. “I wasn’t even allowed to meet the then Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik,” he said, his voice heavy with emotion.

Now, under the new state government, Narayan has renewed his appeal for justice. He has urged the administration to reopen the investigation and ensure that all accused are brought to justice. “All I want is justice for my son. I’ve waited 17 years. Please don’t let this case be forgotten,” he pleaded.

The case, which once drew public outrage, has since faded from headlines. However, Narayan’s unwavering determination has kept the memory of his son alive and the demand for justice burning.
