Bhadrak, Jul 20: A 12-year-old boy was killed after being hit by iron-laden truck at Betada Chhak under Basudevpur police limits in Bhadrak district.

The deceased was identified as resident of Harisarana Binda village.

According to reports, Debaditya, son of Debendra Behera, had visited Betada market and was returning home when a speeding iron-loaded truck travelling from Dhamara to Jamujhadi hit the victim, injuring him critically. He was immediately rescued and rushed to Bhadrak District Headquarters Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.

Outraged over the incident, villagers staged a road blockade near Betada Chhak, burning tyres and demanding strict action against the driver and improved safety measures in the area.

While a case has been registered and a probe is underway, reportedly the truck involved in the accident has been seized.

Local officials including Tehsildar Priyabrata Das, SDPO Bichitra Nanda, and IIC Lopamudra Nayak reached the spot and took stock of the situation.
