Bhubaneswar, Mar 30: The Odisha Assembly witnessed crucial revelations from Health and IT Minister Mukesh Mahaling, ranging from irregularities in Ayushman Bharat implementation to alarming tuberculosis statistics and digital connectivity initiatives.
Mahaling informed the House that 11 private hospitals
violated Ayushman Bharat rules, leading to 56 complaints. Show-cause notices
were issued, and action followed: 10 hospitals were suspended while one was
fined.

Equally concerning was the state’s battle against tuberculosis. Mahaling’s written reply revealed that TB continues to pose a severe health challenge. Year-wise data says:

✨- In 2022, a total of 59,732 patients were identified, but only 26,126 recovered, leaving 33,606 still affected.
- In 2023, 61,285 patients were detected, with 27,345 recovering, while 33,940 remained under the grip of the disease.
- In 2024, 59,819 cases were reported, with 28,057 recovering, leaving 31,762 untreated.
Over three years, nearly one lakh patients failed to recover despite treatment, raising serious concerns about healthcare delivery and disease management.
On the digital front, Mahaling assured that by June 2026,
all villages in Odisha will have mobile network services. Under the Digital
India Fund, 1,237 villages will be connected, bridging the digital divide and
ensuring rural communities gain access to essential mobile services. Responding
to MLA Sarada Jena’s query, the IT Minister stressed that connectivity is vital
for education, healthcare, and governance.
