Woman Naxalite Leader Surrenders in Chhattisgarh

Key Points
Jansi alias Vachhela, a senior Naxalite commander with an ₹8 lakh bounty, surrendered to Gariaband police, marking a significant blow to the insurgency.
Her surrender follows the killing of 10 Naxalites in the Mataal forest and the death of her husband, DVC member Satyam Gawade, in a recent encounter. Jansi cited government rehabilitation schemes and family pressure as reasons for giving up violence, reinforcing the success of Chhattisgarh’s surrender policy.
Bhubaneswar, Sep 15: In a big blow to the Naxalite organisation in Chhattisgarh, a female Naxalite leader carrying a bounty of Rs 8 lakhs has surrendered before the police.
The female Naxalite Jansi alias Vachhela is considered an important associate and is a senior member in the organisation. Reports claim that Jansi is the wife of the recently-killed notorious Naxalite and Darbha Division Committee (DVC) member Satyam Gawade.
Reportedly, 10 Naxalites have been killed in a large-scale encounter in the Mataal forest of Gariaband district that borders the Nuapada district of Odisha.
Jansi, who was the secretary of the Nagar Area Committee and held one of the highest positions, has come forward and surrendered before the Chhattisgarh police. Recently, security forces killed many Naxalite leaders, after which Jansi was the only one left in the top position.
Gariaband SP told in a press conference that Jansi decided to give up the path of blood and violence due to the government's rehabilitation policies and constant pressure from family members.

Police also said that after killing the Naxal leaders and having Jansi surrendered, the Naxal organisation has now been broken. Further, they have requested all other Naxalites to return to the mainstream assuring them of help from the government and the administration in their rehabilitation.
The government's rehabilitation policy aims to offer a new life to those Naxalites who want to leave the path of violence. Under the policy, surrendered Naxalites are given financial help, education for children, and employment opportunities. This policy gives them a chance to live with respect in society.
After Jansi's surrender, the Gariaband police hope that the Naxalite organization will further weaken in the area.
This incident is a huge success for the security forces proving the government's policies and affirmative actions are curbing down the internal disturbances. The decrease in Naxalite activities will eventually bring peace and development in Bastar region of Chhattisgarh and the surrounding areas.
