New Delhi Aug 17: In a key political development ahead of the upcoming Vice Presidential election, BJP national president JP Nadda announced Maharashtra Governor CP Radhakrishnan as the official candidate of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA).

The announcement was made following a high-level meeting of the BJP Parliamentary Board. 


The meeting was attended by senior leaders including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh.

The decision comes weeks after the resignation of Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar, who stepped down citing health reasons.

CP Radhakrishnan, a veteran BJP leader from Tamil Nadu, has held several key positions within the party and was appointed Governor of Maharashtra in 2024.

The Vice Presidential election is scheduled for September 9, with the last date for filing nominations set for August 22.
