Aligarh (UP), Sep 4: In a heart-breaking incident, a video has gone viral where a woman jumps off the roof of a two-storey building after being dared by a man, allegedly her husband.
The incident is from in Dakauli Village in Gonda block of Aligarh district, Uttar Pradesh. As per reports, the woman lost her will to live after years of suffering — frequent threats, physical and mental torture by her in-laws as well as her husband, identified as Sonu, over dowry.
Archana, a 35-year-old woman, got married to Sonu six years ago. Archana’s family had reportedly spent ₹10 lakhs on the wedding. Soon after the wedding, her in-laws demanded more dowry — an additional amount of ₹5 lakhs and a Royal Enfield motorcycle. According to her family, Archana was being mentally and physically tortured over this dowry demand.
The case came to light after a 38-second video, recorded by one of the neighbours, surfaced. In the video, a man, allegedly Sonu, was daring Archana to jump off the building. She landed hard on the ground. She fortunately survived despite sustaining several fractures and injuries. Archana was seen beaten by her husband even after she fell off, to which a child was heard crying, "Mummy, Mummy."

A case has been registered in this connection on September 2. In a complaint to the police, Archana's brother Ankit has alleged that Archana was being sexually harassed by Sonu's brother. When he complained about this situation to her mother-in-law, Nehni Devi, and her husband, Sonu, the matter was ignored.
"Her in-laws threatened to kill my sisters' children. My sister said she would jump off the roof. And they egged her on. A neighbour shot a video and sent it to us. My sister's in-laws tortured her mentally and drove her to the edge. She has suffered serious injuries," mentioned Archana's brother in the complaint. "Even after Archana gave birth to a son and a daughter, there was no change in Nehni Devi’s behaviour towards her," added Ankit.
In reference to the police statement, Circle Officer Mahesh
Kumar said, "The woman jumped off the roof after her husband dared her.
She has been hospitalised and a medical examination has been conducted. We have
recorded her statement and registered a case under the relevant sections."
Further, they have also stated that they are considering the video as part of
the investigation.
