UP Govt Hikes Minimum Wages Retrospective From April 1 After Noida Labour Unrest
High-Powered Committee Approved Wage Revision

Key Points

Uttar Pradesh government announced minimum wage hike across worker categories, effective retrospectively from April 1, following labour unrest in Noida.

Noida, Apr 14: In the wake of recent labour unrest, the Uttar Pradesh government announced a hike in minimum wages across worker categories, with revised rates coming into effect retrospectively from April 1, officials said Tuesday.

Gautam Buddh Nagar District Magistrate Medha Roopam said, “The wage increase has been done by the high-powered committee,” adding, “The decision was approved by CM UP late last night.”

Revised Wages Across Regions

According to an official statement, workers in Gautam Buddh Nagar and Ghaziabad will see a significant increase in wages. Unskilled workers will now receive Rs 13,690 per month, up from Rs 11,313, while semi-skilled workers will get Rs 15,059 and skilled workers Rs 16,868.

In other municipal corporation areas, unskilled workers will be paid Rs 13,006 per month, semi-skilled workers Rs 14,306, and skilled workers Rs 16,025.

For the remaining districts, the revised wages have been fixed at Rs 12,356 for unskilled workers, Rs 13,591 for semi-skilled workers, and Rs 15,224 for skilled workers.

Decision After Consultations
Officials said the revision was finalised after consultations with employers’ bodies and labour organisations. Suggestions and objections from stakeholders were examined to ensure a “balanced and practical” outcome.

Backdrop of Violent Protests
The move comes after large-scale protests by factory workers in Noida, where thousands had demanded higher wages and improved working conditions. The demonstrations turned violent in parts of the district, prompting the government to form a committee to address the concerns and initiate dialogue between workers and employers.

Authorities said the wage hike is part of efforts to restore normalcy and address long-pending demands of labourers in the region.
