Training Aircraft in Sugarcane Field After Emergency Landing

Key Points

A training aircraft made an emergency landing in Maharashtra’s Baramati after losing engine power mid‑air. The trainee pilot landed safely in a sugarcane field, avoiding casualties, months after Ajit Pawar’s crash in the same village.
Baramati/Maharashtra,May 13: A training aircraft operated by Redbird company made an emergency landing in Baramati on Wednesday morning after developing a technical problem during a training session. The incident occurred near Gojubavi village, the same location where NCP leader Ajit Pawar’s plane had crashed months earlier.

According to preliminary reports, the trainee pilot encountered trouble around 8:40 am when the aircraft lost engine power while flying over the northern side of the village, about 1.5 kilometres from the main residential area. Despite the sudden mid‑air failure, the pilot managed to control the aircraft and land it safely in a nearby sugarcane field.

The emergency landing prevented a potential disaster, ensuring no harm to residents on the ground. Officials confirmed that no casualties or injuries were reported. However, the trainee pilot was said to be in shock following the incident.

Soon after the landing, local villagers rushed to the spot, followed by police personnel and administrative officials. Authorities immediately began investigating the cause of the technical failure. The focus of the probe will be on the reported engine malfunction and the circumstances that forced the pilot to make the emergency landing.

This is not the first aviation‑related incident in Gojubavi village. Earlier, a plane carrying NCP leader and former Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar had crashed in the same area, raising concerns about repeated aviation mishaps in the region.

Officials stressed that while the safe landing avoided casualties, the incident highlights the importance of strict safety checks and technical monitoring in training aircraft operations. Investigators are expected to examine maintenance records and operational procedures of the Redbird company to determine whether mechanical issues or other factors contributed to the failure.

The successful emergency landing stands as a testament to the trainee pilot’s composure and skill under pressure. Aviation experts noted that such quick decision‑making is crucial in preventing accidents during training flights.

As the investigation continues, authorities are expected to release a detailed report on the technical problem. For now, the incident has once again drawn attention to aviation safety standards in Maharashtra, especially in Baramati, which has witnessed multiple aircraft‑related incidents in recent years.
