Mandi, Jul 8: In a heartwarming tale of instinct and bravery, a village dog in Siyathi, Dharampur area of Mandi district, saved 67 lives during a devastating landslide triggered by relentless monsoon rains on the night of June 30.
As torrential rain battered the region, the dog — sleeping on the second floor of its owner Narendra’s house — began barking and howling frantically around midnight. Initially startled, Narendra went to calm the dog but noticed a large crack forming in the wall and water seeping into the house. Realizing the danger, he immediately woke his family and rushed to alert neighbours.
Within minutes, 20 families evacuated their homes and fled to safety. Shortly after, a massive landslide flattened nearly a dozen houses, burying most of the village under debris. Miraculously, no casualties were reported, thanks to the dog’s timely warning.

✨Survivors have taken shelter at the Naina Devi temple in nearby Triyambala village. Many are now coping with trauma, anxiety, and health issues following the disaster. Local authorities have provided ₹10,000 in immediate relief to each affected family.
The incident has drawn widespread attention, with the dog hailed as a guardian angel. Himachal Pradesh continues to face severe monsoon damage, with over 78 deaths reported statewide due to landslides, flash floods, and cloudbursts.
