According to the legend, when Lord Shiva wanted to give a gift (Dakshina) to Lord Brahma and Lord Vishnu after a marriage ceremony, they both refused to accept it. To solve this problem, Lord Shiva created a special group of people called the Jangam Sadhus by striking his thigh. These Jangam Sadhus then went around, asking for donations (Dakshina) from others. They also sang songs to celebrate the marriage and received offerings from people as a form of respect and devotion to Lord Shiva.


In essence, the Jangam Sadhus were created by Lord Shiva to receive offerings when the other gods wouldn't accept them. They became a part of Shiva's worship and rituals.

A Jangam Sadhu is a religious person who follows Lord Shiva.
