Thane, Sep 8: A 17-year-old boy who scored 95.7% in his Class-12 science examinations died by suicide in Thane after reportedly failing to secure admission to the institute of his choice, police said Monday.
The teenager lived with his family in a housing complex in Hiranandani Estate on Ghodbunder Road. According to police, he had recently completed his Class-12 exams and wanted to pursue a BS-MS dual degree at the Indian Institute of Engineering Science and Technology (IIEST), Shibpur, in Kolkata.
Teen Missed Admission After Aptitude Test
Police said the teenager secured a rank of 10,474 in the aptitude test and could not obtain a seat at the institute.
His family told police that he appeared distressed after failing to secure admission to the reputed institute.

On Friday evening, September 4, the teenager reportedly left home around 7:30 pm, telling his family he was going cycling.
At around 8:15 pm, he sent a message to the family WhatsApp group indicating that he intended to end his life. His family alerted the Kasarvadavali Police Station after seeing the message and finding his phone switched off.
Family And Police Launch Search
Police personnel and family members searched the locality following the message.
The teenager was subsequently found severely injured on a pavement near his apartment after falling from the 22nd-floor refuge area of a residential building, police said.
He was taken to the Civil Hospital in Thane, where doctors declared him dead on arrival.

Accidental Death Report Registered
An accidental death report (ADR) has been registered under Section 194 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita based on a statement given by the teenager's father.
At around 8:15 pm, he sent a message to the family WhatsApp group indicating that he intended to end his life. His family alerted the Kasarvadavali Police Station after seeing the message and finding his phone switched off.
