Key Points

The registration for the sacred Amarnath Yatra 2026 began today in Jammu, drawing large crowds of devotees eager to secure their place for the 57‑day pilgrimage. With counters set up across the city and banks nationwide facilitating the process, the spiritual fervor is evident as pilgrims prepare to journey to the holy cave shrine in south Kashmir starting July 3.
Jammu & Kashmir, April 15: The annual Amarnath Yatra, one of the most significant pilgrimages in India, witnessed an enthusiastic start as registration commenced in Jammu on Wednesday, April 15, 2026. Pilgrims in large numbers thronged the designated counters, eager to secure their place for the spiritual journey to the holy cave shrine in south Kashmir Himalayas.

This year’s 57-day yatra will begin on July 3 and conclude on August 28, coinciding with Raksha Bandhan. Devotees can choose between the traditional 48 km Nunwan-Pahalgam route in Anantnag or the shorter but steeper 14 km Baltal route in Ganderbal. The registration process has been made available in both online and offline modes, ensuring wider accessibility for participants across the country.

Punjab National Bank (PNB), acting as the nodal bank for the yatra, has taken the lead in facilitating registrations. According to PNB’s Jammu Circle Head, DGM Pankaj Kumar Verma, a total of 556 bank branches nationwide are involved in the process, including 310 branches of PNB. In Jammu alone, six counters have been set up to manage the heavy rush of devotees. Other banks such as J&K Bank, Yes Bank, and SBI are also participating, with long queues forming outside their branches since early morning.

Pilgrims expressed their excitement and devotion as they lined up for registration. Officials noted that the improved law and order situation in Jammu and Kashmir has boosted confidence among banks and devotees alike. With expectations of a higher turnout this year, banks are working to streamline the registration process further.

The Amarnath Yatra holds immense religious significance, drawing lakhs of devotees annually who brave challenging terrain to seek blessings at the sacred cave. With registrations now open, the spiritual fervor is set to rise as pilgrims prepare for the journey of faith and devotion.
