New Delhi, Aug 21: As the fifth session of the 18th Lok Sabha concluded today, Speaker Shri Om Birla delivered a poignant valedictory address, expressing deep concern over the persistent and planned disruptions that marred the Monsoon Session. The session, which began on July 21, was expected to facilitate 120 hours of debate and discussion, but only 37 hours were utilized due to repeated deadlocks.
Birla lamented that sloganeering, placard displays, and orchestrated interruptions had eroded the dignity of Parliament, calling on Members to introspect and uphold the decorum of the House. “The public has great expectations from their representatives,” he said. “Instead of wasting precious time, Members should engage in meaningful discussions on public problems, national concerns, and important legislations.”
