West Bengal Elections / “Saffron Tsunami in Bengal”: Dharmendra Pradhan’s Bold Claim as Election Campaign Intensifies

Key Points
Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan has predicted a “saffron tsunami” in West Bengal as Assembly election campaigning intensifies. With polling set for April 23 and 29, BJP leaders including PM Narendra Modi, Rajnath Singh, and Arjun Ram Meghwal are holding major rallies across districts. Pradhan accused Mamata Banerjee of deceiving Bengal for 15 years, while Modi promised industrialisation, women’s safety, and jobs if the BJP comes to power.
The BJP has intensified its outreach across districts, with top leaders hitting the ground. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh launched a nomination rally in Barrackpore, signaling the party’s aggressive push in key constituencies. Union Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal also joined the campaign in Kolkata, adding weight to the BJP’s strategy of deploying central leaders to bolster local candidates.
At the constituency level, BJP candidate Shankar Guchait has begun his campaign in Midnapore Sadar, while Arjun Singh highlighted the Election Commission’s efforts to clean up voter rolls, removing duplicate and ineligible names.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, addressing a massive rally in Cooch Behar, strongly criticized the Trinamool Congress over issues of lawlessness and misgovernance. He cited incidents such as the reported hostage situation involving judicial officers in Malda, which drew Supreme Court intervention. Modi promised that if the BJP comes to power, industrialization, farmers’ income, women’s safety, and employment would be top priorities.
Meanwhile, Mamata Banerjee has also stepped up her campaign, holding public meetings in Samsherganj, Jiaganj, and Azimganj, and leading a roadshow in Baharampur. The Congress and Left parties are conducting smaller rallies, ensuring a multi-cornered contest.
With polling scheduled for April 23 and April 29, the political atmosphere in Bengal is charged, and the battle lines are clearly drawn. As both BJP and Trinamool intensify their campaigns, the state is bracing for one of its most competitive elections in recent years.
