Puri, June 27: Amid Ghant beating, Odissi and Gotipua dances, and unique art performances on the Bada Danda (Grand Road), the Pahandi of Chakraraj Sudarshan started at around 10 am. Daitapati Sevaks escorted Sudarshan, the Ayudh of Lord Jagannath, with all reverence to the Darpadalan Chariot.

According to tradition, Sudarshan is seated on the Darapadalan Rath first and stands as protection to sister Devi Subhadra. After Sudarsan is seated, Pahandi of Devi Subhadra will begin. Lord Balabhadra will come in Pahand after Devi Subhadra sits on her Rath, Darpadalan.

Finally, Lord Jagannath, fondly called Kalia Saa'nta, will be brought in the ceremonial escort from the Santom Santorum of Shreemandir.

The scene of Tahiya swinging enthrals visitors the most. Tahiya, fitted on the heads of the deities, swings marvellously as the idols move to the sides during Pahandi.

According to the schedule, Rath pulling will begin at 4 pm.
