Pradhan Slams Congress, Defends EC Over Voter Rolls

Key Points

Dharmendra Pradhan accuses Congress of misleading public over voter roll revision.

Challenges Rahul Gandhi to restore deleted names in Bihar himself.

Labels opposition protests as a strategy to destabilize democratic institutions.

New Delhi, Aug 11: Union Education Minister and senior BJP leader Dharmendra Pradhan on Monday launched a scathing attack on Congress and its leadership during a press conference at the BJP headquarters here, accusing them of undermining constitutional institutions and misleading the public over the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.

Pradhan alleged that Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, while claiming to defend the Constitution, is in fact attempting to destabilize democratic institutions like the Election Commission. “Those who roam around with the Constitution in hand are the ones trying to dismantle constitutional bodies,” he said.

Responding to allegations that legitimate voters’ names were being removed from the rolls in Bihar, Pradhan clarified that the Election Commission has a transparent mechanism to reinstate any valid voter whose name is mistakenly deleted. He challenged Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi to visit Bihar and help restore the names he claims were removed, asserting, “The Constitution is strong enough to ensure justice, but Rahul Gandhi lacks the courage.”

Pradhan further accused Gandhi of using the issue to push for the inclusion of infiltrators in the voter list, thereby compromising national sovereignty for political gain. “This is not about saving democracy; it’s about securing a vote bank,” he said.

The Minister also criticized the opposition’s protest march to the Election Commission, calling it a “well-thought-out strategy to create a state of anarchy.” He claimed that repeated electoral defeats have pushed Congress into “ideological bankruptcy,” and that their politics now revolve around spreading misinformation and creating chaos.

The BJP leader praised the Election Commission’s impartiality and urged the opposition to engage in constructive debate within Parliament rather than resorting to street protests. He concluded by stating that the people of India will judge the indecent language and conduct of opposition leaders.

Meanwhile, the Opposition MPs today staged a protest march from Parliament House Complex to the office of the Election Commission against the Special Intensive revision of electoral roll in Bihar. The members demanded the rollback of SIR in Bihar. Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and party leader Rahul Gandhi, NCP (SCP) chief Sharad Pawar, SP Chief Akhilesh Yadav, JMM leader Mauha Maji, TMC MP Derek O’Brien among others, took part in the protest.
