PM Modi to Hoist Sacred Ram Temple Flag During 'Abhijeet Muhurat' Today in Ayodhya

Key Points

  • PM Narendra Modi to perform Dhwaj Arohan at Ayodhya's Ram Mandir during Abhijeet Muhurat.
  • Saffron flag featuring sacred symbols to be hoisted atop the 161-foot temple shikhara.
  • Event marks the architectural completion of the temple and opening of all 44 doors for worship.
Lucknow, Nov 25: Ayodhya is set for a historic day as Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrives Tuesday afternoon to perform the “Dhwaj Arohan” -- the ceremonial hoisting of the Ram Mandir flag. The event marks the formal completion of the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi temple, transitioning it from a construction site to a fully consecrated divine abode of Lord Ram.

The ceremony will be held during the highly auspicious “Abhijeet Muhurat” between 11:58 am and 1 pm, a time believed by priests to bring maximum spiritual merit to sacred undertakings. Vivah Panchami, marking the divine wedding of Lord Ram and Sita, further enhances the significance of today’s rituals.

The Prime Minister will hoist the saffron flag atop the 161-foot shikhara (spire) of the Ram Mandir. The flag, measuring 22 feet by 11 feet, will be raised on a 42-foot pole using an automatic hoisting system. The fabric is made of parachute-grade material, designed to withstand heat, rain and winds up to 60 km/hr. It was crafted over 25 days by a specialist manufacturer in Ahmedabad.

The flag features three sacred, hand-embroidered golden symbols:
• The Sun – signifying Lord Ram’s Suryavanshi lineage and eternal energy.
• Om – representing the universal spiritual vibration.
• Kovidar tree motifs – associated with purity, prosperity and the ideals of Ram Rajya.

According to scriptures, the Kovidar tree is described in the Valmiki Ramayana as a hybrid created by Rishi Kashyap through ancient plant techniques.

The event is expected to host between 6,000 and 8,000 invitees. Ayodhya has been extensively decorated for the occasion, with nearly 100 tonnes of flowers used across the city. A special aarti will be performed after the flag is hoisted.

Dhwaj Arohan vs Pran Pratishtha
While the Pran Pratishtha on January 22, 2024, infused the Ram Lalla idol with life force, Dhwaj Arohan marks the architectural completion and public proclamation of the temple’s sovereignty. Priests describe it as the spiritual activation of the full structure. With today’s rituals, all 44 doors of the temple stand open for worship and ceremonies.

Today also marks the first Ram-Sita Vivah Utsav inside the completed temple complex.
